WHEN you have a film with a cast of Hollywood beauties like Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson and Marion Cotillard, the outfits are bound to be show-stopping, right?

Not in the case of Nine, unfortunately.

In Rob Marshall’s new musical, which opens here on 18 Feb, Kidman plays the muse of a middle-aged film director (Daniel Day-Lewis).

But the 42-year-old Aussie actress herself seems to have forgotten how to inspire on the red carpet.

Actually, she has already lost it a while back. It’s almost as if – gasp! – she just doesn’t care anymore.

Instead of being decked up to the nines for the premieres like her more glamorous co-stars (whose styles we’ll break down over the next two weeks), Kidman decided to dress down.

Which is why she ended up being the worst-dressed of Nine’s four leading ladies – and making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

1 She was gunning for flirty and girly with this strapless black Prada puff-ball duchess satin frock embellished with beaded floral appliques, teamed with black Pierre Hardy peep-toes and a playful, softly curled side-swept updo at the New York premiere.

But all eyes were on Kidman’s major make-up malfunction.

On closer inspection, it looks like she got carried away powdering her nose and under her eyes – without using a mirror.

The make-up artist who allowed her to go out looking like a clown ought to be hauled off and shot.

We all have our off-days, but this faux pas is unforgivable for a red carpet veteran like Kidman who always seems groomed to perfection.

Unless it was her 2-year-old daughter Sunday Rose who applied it.

2 Kidman is giving me serious deja vu in this body-skimming dress from her favourite designer L’Wren Scott in the most awful shade of baby pink at the Los Angeles premiere.

And would it kill her to wear stilettoes for once over her plain old kitten heels?

She has admitted to being obsessed with lace, which could explain why she thought it was a good idea to throw a dust ruffle (masquerading as a tiered lace capelet) over herself.

This woman truly needs a fashion intervention.

3 At the London premiere, Kidman bores me to tears in this low-key white-and-taupe Azzedine Alaia blazer-and-pleated miniskirt ensemble that’s more suited for a board meeting.

C’mon Nic, not even one decent gown? You can do better than this. Or maybe not.

4 If she can’t be bothered to bring the wow factor to her premieres, you can bet she won’t make much effort for her TV appearances.

While promoting Nine on the Today show in New York, Kidman wore a sheer tee, tight cropped jeans and leather jacket – all in drab grey and cobalt blue kitten heels.

Another big snooze.
